It is the year 2050. The Death Race serves as both entertainment and population control in the United Corporations of America, which is beset by overpopulation and a 99.993 percent unemployment rate. The current Death Race features reigning champion Frankenstein, genetically engineered athlete Jed Perfectus, hip-hop sensation Minerva Jefferson, female cultist Tammy the Terrorist, and the evil, black, artificially intelligent, self-driving car ABE, which spans from Old New York to New Los Angeles. Each driver is given a proxy, a broadcaster who gives the viewers a virtual reality experience of the race. Frankenstein is instantly turned off by his proxy, Annie Sullivan, and dismisses both her efforts to interview him and her advice to let his opponents pass him by.
Rebels headed by former network producer Alexis Hamilton lay traps all over the sector as the racers speed across the East Coast. When they take each other's cult members for murders, Tammy and Minerva establish a violent rivalry. ABE malfunctions, kills its proxy, and abandons the race after falling into a rebel trap. Hamilton instructs Annie, her spy, to murder Frankenstein at the first checkpoint. Her effort to attract him is unsuccessful since he is just interested in winning the race. The Chairman goes on to say that because of his longevity, Frankenstein has become a burden, while Perfectus will urge his loyal followers to die at his hands.

His automobile becomes trapped in the cornfield as Frankenstein takes another shortcut on the way. In the meanwhile, Frankenstein takes on a bunch of Resistance Ninjas in order to earn an additional point. Annie confesses to being a rebel at the second checkpoint and tries to recruit Frankenstein. He curses the rebels and the government, stressing that his main goal is winning the race, a sentiment he repeats throughout the film. It is revealed to Annie at a bar by the educated intellectual, Minerva, that she is a stereotype of a hip-hop artist in order for her to live. A jealous Perfectus attacks Frankenstein as he returns to his apartment, but Annie intervenes and rescues him from certain death.. In the meanwhile, it is found that Hamilton and the Chairman are working closely behind the scenes.
The government provides "authorized" routes for the drivers on Day 3 of the race to prevent Resistance assaults. Because Frankenstein's right arm was crippled in his struggle with Perfectus, Annie assists him in shifting gears. Minerva pursues Tammy, but in order to dodge Tammy's suicidal proxy, she jumps over a cliff. Tammy gloats over Minerva's murder before an ABE drives her into the wall and self-destructs, killing both of them. Perfectus takes a backroad to the finish line, while Frankenstein and Annie eliminate Hamilton and her rebels. Perfectus loses control of his vehicle and smashes into the virtual reality control booth as both cars battle for place. Frankenstein sends a message to his admirers before crossing the finish line, implying that the Chairman is worth 1,000 points. After murdering the Chairman, Frankenstein invites the audience to leave their virtual world behind and participate in their own Death Race. Frankenstein and Annie stand in the distance as the nation descends into turmoil, arguing that they should repopulate the land after the upheaval has subsided.

What kind of production process was used for Death Race 2050?
When being interviewed by an Italian journalist, who made the statement that The Hunger Games was comparable to Death Race 2000, Roger Corman received the idea for a sequel to the first film. The Hunger Games had parallels to Death Race 2000. Corman made contact with Universal Pictures, the company that had produced the contemporary remake (which Corman believed had omitted an excessive amount of the political commentary of the original), and proposed adding back the dark satire that was there in the original. Corman congratulated them and pointed out their accomplishments before telling them, "You did a nice job, but you've removed the murdering of the pedestrians and the ideas of a broken society."
Filming started while Corman was in his late eighties and coincided with the 2016 presidential election in the United States. It stars an entrepreneur who is now the Chairman of the United Corporations of America. "The president does have a hair style that could be approaching Trump's hair style," Corman told an interviewer, "but I don't want to get too heavy into that because Trump will come and go, but the film will remain."
